LETS TALK SKINCARE

I may not be a professional skincare specialist but there are 4 mistakes I have learned over the past few years about skincare.

1. The simpler the skincare the better. I would stick to the basics such as using cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen.

2. Don’t pick your pimples. The scars will last longer than the pimple and it’s not worth it.

3. Educate yourself with the ingredients of the product. I would go for clean products which are formulated without sulfates, parabens, mineral oil and also fragrance-free.

4. Avoid physical exfoliators but instead use chemical exfoliators. This is because physical exfoliators are harsh to the skin and may strip away the skin’s protective barrier, leaving your skin vulnerable to sun damage and dryness.

5. Face wipes are a no-no unless you’re using them as a last resort when you’re on-the-go. This is because they can cause skin irritations. Plus, it’s not good for the environment. I would opt for double cleansing and proceed with micellar water after that.

I’ve included my favourite skincare products in this post (it’s also Hyram approved yay!) as well as the link so it will be easier for you to purchase. I have great experiences with these products and have purchased them more than twice.

Disclaimer: these products worked for me but may not work for you so please do some research on the ingredients of the product before purchasing them :)

· Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser: I love this cleanser as it is gentle on the face and the best part is that it smells like strawberries! It has strawberry seed oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein and tomato extracts which helps to strengthen, firm and protect the skin.

· Indie Lee COQ-10 toner: This toner is alcohol-free, antioxidant, vegan and formulated with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, chamomile, cucumber, sage and rejuvenating enzymes from papaya.

· Glow Recipe Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum: This product is the best serum I’ve used so far, and I noticed my skin redness was instantly reduced after applying.

· First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: I have extremely dry skin and this moisturizer does its job. It’s the type of moisturizer I would go back to after trying out other brands.

· First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pad: I use these exfoliating pads which you wipe across your face once or twice a week to dissolve all dead skin cells for fresh, glowy and bright skin. It is formulated with lactic acid and glycolic acid (both are great AHAs), licorice root and camellia extract which are great for soothing the skin and antioxidant. What differentiates this product to other exfoliating pads in the market is that it does not contain denatured alcohol (this product is alcohol-free!).

· Supergoop Play SPF 50 Everyday lotion: Let’s be honest, there is no point of doing your skincare if you don’t apply sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. By using sunscreen daily, it can help guard against skin cancer and premature skin ageing.

Skincare Jargon

Here are some ‘fancy’ words the skincare industry use to make their products impressive but are often misleading.

- Non-comedogenic: will not block pores

- Hypoallergenic: fewer allergies compared to other products.

- Clinically proven: the product was tried on a group of people, with them giving feedback at the end of a set period of time.

- Dermatologically tested: the product has passed rigorous laboratory tests carried by dermatologists.

- Parabens: parabens have been used as preservative since the 50s but can be worrying due to their safety, allergy and sensitivity (Mahto, 2018)
